Upon returning from America, people have always asked me what I am studying. When I tell them, I always receive a look of amazement or surprise.  “Wow, so you want to be a pastor?” I agree that a young kid studying theology as a degree is unheard of in Malaysia, or at least not that I know of. So, naturally people will be curious to know why. I have been facing this simple question ever since I decided to study abroad in Liberty University in America one year ago.   In hindsight, I think that God has given me a foretaste of what it means to be a minister. Or maybe it was just a season of growth in my Christian faith. Whichever it may be, I realized that the first year at Liberty He placed in me a burden for the lost and a confidence to reach out to them. Although I did ministry work in Scripture Union prior, it was merely a fun job then where I understood the gospel and develop skills to present it. Post by: Silas August, the most climactic point of this year. With an exception of my IGCSE exams, which is next year, I feel very much accomplished. There were two significant events that happened in the middle of August - my school's graduation ceremony and the annual camp. It was as if everything that we worked for had paid off. The emotions I felt were inexplicably ecstatic.  First off is the graduation ceremony. After our performance last year, which went rather well, I was quite enthusiastic for the next one. However, I felt demotivated because the person that I looked up to when it comes to things like this was not around. So, I wasn't very keen to perform in this year's drama.  But, I had to. I didn't want to leave my class hanging behind just because of my selfishness. So, I pushed on. Post: Silas We are back at Sepetang again! But when we got there, we saw so many extraordinary things like it's our first time there. Probably because we had a guide to bring us to some places we haven't been from our previous visit. I think we were so engrossed by the wildlife in the mangrove that we just didn't realize that the river mouth nearby has just as much stuff. Somebody has been busy drying fishes for our dishes... A visit to the charcoal factory. At least this time I understand what was really going on in there. A walk among the mangroves, but it was in the afternoon, low tide and not very humid, so we didn't really see much of the creatures.  But we did see some inquisitive crabs coming out of their holes to greet us... I realized that when we were in the mangrove, we always look down, because that's where the crabs and mudskippers are. But this time when I looked up, it was like a different world altogether....

Post by Silas        When you think of Taipei in December, you would think it will be cold and dull. Well, during the first few days in Taipei there was a cold snap that froze me beyond my limit (It wasn't really that  cold, but I just do not like cold). After that, days were unusually hot for a winter (30°C!), which I found disturbing under my thick woolly jacket.  Not to mention the language barriers as well. I had a bad experience, not able to communicate in Mandarin in Taipei... Luckily, my Dad did most of the talking so I just stood there nodding to every word he said. Of all the places I've been so far, this is the most exciting and memorable trip I've ever had. Mostly because this is my first time in Taiwan, so seeing the extraordinary wonders of nature as well as the local life and culture of Taiwanese excites the senses of an adventurous traveller.  The places I've been in Taipei are really outstanding, like the Yehliu Geopa...

Posted by Silas I greatly anticipated the Kiwanis Builders' Camp at Benum Hill Resort, Pahang. I love facing the challenges, alone in the woods and doing different things with new friends. I noticed that this time more than half the participants came from sheltered homes  (ie homes for the abused, neglected or abandoned children). I like them because they were very open in one to one conversations, independent, but very shy in groups. It took a lot of effort to get them to speak out in group discussions, although they had brilliant ideas. But as we spent more time together, we grew comfortable and started to be more confident.  People think camp is a time to have fun, to learn, to get along with each other, and come out a better person. That's just pretty much it. But to me, those are not the main reasons. Thinking hard without thinking caps... Besides fun, I realized that these games were trying to train us to look at things from different angles; thin...
