This was our family's 1st camping trip in tents together! 1st trip for the boys to the East Coast island. We have booked a few tents for camping at the newly opened Rainforest Camping at Pulau Perhentian Kecil. We arrived at the Kuala Besut jetty late, at almost 4pm. We parked our car with SafePark Holidays cos they offered us a covered, secure parking lot. Boat tickets to the Perhentian island is RM70 (return) per pax and RM5 each for Marine Park fee.  We're anxious to get to the campsite before any change in weather. The sky was more cloudy by then and a bit overcast (let's hope they got the weather forecast wrong). Our water chalet at Avillion, Port Dickson. It's a family-friendly resort and still well-maintained with good service. We got away for a night to chill before our back to school family routine. Spacious room, clean, no unpleasant smell in the toilet. And a good view facing the Straits of Malacca. Trying to spot some birds cos it's still the Raptor Watch month in March. Only spotted one or two raptors but could hear many chirping sounds from the tree birds. I felt calmer listening to the birds than the traffic noise.  Surprise, surprise, we thought nothing of the small beach with white fine sand..... but there were many seashells there. It's a very relaxing and soothing activity picking up some of them, but told the kids to pick up only those empty seashells. At that point in time, we're totally unaware and oblivious to the infamous sand flies in Port Dickson!! Later, we realised we'd such a close call. (Must remember that sandflies become activ...

When things didn't turn out like we expected...... We've a week school-term break that overlapped with Hari Raya celebration. We thought of going to Malacca for an overnight camp - quite last minute, without any booking. We got stuck in a horrible jam, instead of wasting time on the road, we turned back home. We thought of catching a movie - but we couldn't find any that's worth watching. Then, we decided to go ahead with our plan to camp, but at home instead.  BBQ fun at home with our roasted potatoes and burgers. Everyone chipped in to help and soon we had a fire going. Our own makeshift rubbish dump! A first class air-conditioned camp at home and the children slept soundly until the next morning! We thought of setting the tent outside but it rained heavily after dinner and the children backed out. The next day, we tried again to go to Malacca, at least for a day trip.
