Posted by Xian Wei Gong Xi Fa Cai! This year's CNY might be one of the most prosperous CNY for me. I get to visit my cousins again, and eat and talk with them. Also, we had the reunion with some of my parents' friends.  The Yusheng. The only dish that did not vary in the reunion dinner during our visits and stays. So if you can't escape from it, just eat it. During the CNY, animals(sugar glider [right]) and insects(cicada [left]) also wanted to visit us. They were quite a company. This is, by far, the best movie made by Malaysians. A truly heart-warming movie that is about not only football, but also about the hardship of Malaysians in the 80s. A kitchen filled with the aroma of freshly baked goodies is one of the most treasured memories of the festive season. This is why I love baking especially before Chinese New Year because of the warm, wonderful aroma that gives the home a sense of anticipation of the reunion with family and loved ones. Unfortunately, you cannot capture tis in pictures. Together with my helper, I made  biscotti  as Chinese New Year gifts. It's one of those things that goes well with my daily dose of coffee.  I've more time this Chinese New Year cos my kids are all in schools. But things always did not go as planned as one of them fell really sick the week before the new year. Tuan Nian is an important family tradition celebrated on the eve of the new lunar year. We joined the rest of the family members to make our way back to Ipoh for this Tuan Nian or reunion dinner. In many ways, the celebration has changed in modern times. Now most families opt to have their Tuan Nian in restaurants rather than 'home-cooked'. At dinner table, what used to be "we" now become everything "i"..... i-pads and i-phone and we even bring our friends to our Tuan Nian via facebooks and chats, taking picture and updating every detail.
