It's been 2 months?! - 27th June 2017

Posted by Xian Jin One moment I was wondering about what’s going to happen. Now, here I am preparing for my finals. It’s as if I’m on the express train of life. I remember how I was so undecided and unsure on what to do, what not to do, what to say, what not to say… etc before I entered college. Questions and doubts were floating like stormy clouds in my head, ready to pour. I had mixed feelings about starting school again, after 6 months at home- I left my job too, and missed it deeply (still do). Fast forward 2  months later, here I am, as busy as one can be with assignments, presentations, so on and so forth. It’s strange how time can pass so fast. Despite having been here for over a month, I still get lost occasionally. This place is huge!! I am really enjoying my time here, ‘even though’ it has only been a few weeks (or ‘because’, I don’t know which yet). I’ve fallen in love with the beautiful scenery of the lakes and trees, the ducks, cats, tortoises- y...

Sekinchan Recce - 2 Jan 2015

Our 1st trip to Sekinchan, an 11th hour day trip to a paddy field and fishing village in Selangor, over 100 km north of KL. We had wanted to go so many times. It's not that far from KL, thus we kept putting it in the sideline for other priorities. The biggest challenge making this trip - on a new year - was rising early. We have to condition our body again to get up early after the long school holidays. It sure felt like a good start to a new year. The golden crop has just been harvested in December. It didn't matter cos every season there's something to see here. The sky after a long season of rain. The sun shined on and off again - a promise of a new season, one filled with lotsa sunshine. Golden crop - the rice-bowl of Selangor. Driving along the scenic Jalan Tali Air to see the paddy fields. Shoebox houses to attract swiftlets are common sight. Tractor working to prepare the land for the next planting season whilst birds - little egrets, ca...

Prefects' Camp at Serendah - 25-26 Jul 2014

Image
Posted by Xian Wei A camp for prefects with our teachers to Grace Farm at Serendah. It's an annual activity to give us time to learn life skills beyond the classroom. I was so excited that I couldn't wait any longer. We left at about 11am. We went there by vans and stopped only at KFC for lunch. At last we're there!! The scenery was beautiful and there were many farm animals. We settled down and played some games.  I've tried kayak and raft but this was my first time rowing a boat.   We had a boat race that the first boat to reach the opposite side of the pond and come back would be the winner. We rowed hard until my shoulders ached.  We're 2nd.  We had a great time and more fun in the outdoor than our classrooms. Catching shrimps on the raft was not easy. I fell off the raft twice because it wasn't stable. Our first attempt failed, but this was only one of the methods.  Mission to make a raft. My friends st...

"Save the Rainforest" Walk - 29 Mar 2014

Image
By XianJin: The "Save the Rainforest" Walk was organized by an NGO, PEKA , to create an awareness of the importance of rainforests in Malaysia. This was their first 'in-city' forest walk at Sungai Besi forest reserve in Cheras - near to our home so all the more we should support this event.  In teams of two, we had to walk about 8km (which was far for me) from Alam Damai park to the forest and back. Over 2,000 participants took part, and the place was crowded and chaotic. Already feeling tired from the previous day, I was determined to complete the Walk. Each participant was given a goodie bag (with an energy bar, a water bottle and food vouchers). I couldn't imagine how tough 8km was at that time, thinking it's OK, not knowing what was to come. I took part with my father and brother, along with our friends so there're 6 of us in 3 teams. A briefing and a warm-up session. I couldn't wait to start. After what seemed like h...
