Community Football - 20 & 21 May 2017

Posted by Brandon. The football season ended with a bang! A carnival was held at the field. It was a 2-day tournament. All the tribes (Spartans, Vikings, Aztecs, Samurai, Apache and Gladiators) had a march pass with their costumes, weapons, etc. I felt very excited for the carnival to start. The field was overcrowded with children of different ages wearing their costumes.   Everyone was in bright smiles.☺ And here we go! The march pass starts! There were dozens and dozens of parents who came to cheer and support. Their cheering was excellent to me. The march was well organized, outstanding and everything was in order.     Our tribe managed to get the best costume award! First game of the tourney. Everyone played well and they all deserved to win. Honestly, I think some of my team mates were not in high spirit. Partly because few of our best players were absent on that day so some of them were ...

Football, rain or shine!

Posted by Brandon. A friend of ours introduced us to a community youth football league. I wanted to try something new, so I decided to join. This was a new experience for me, since I never joined a real football league before. The league is held every year, and if I'm not mistaken, it started in 2001. The place is located in Subang Jaya. It is quite far but worth it. My team is called the 'Vikings' and my teammates were all very friendly. I was given the number '11'. We still had to play even though it rained. If it is a heavy rain or thunderstorm, we had to refuge at a small cabin near the field until the rain stopped. I enjoyed playing in the rain because it feels like you are a real footballer. But my mother was the opposite. She kept herself under the umbrella, and said  no to playing under the rain! If the field is very wet after the rain stopped, (my mother said it wasn't a football field, but a vast swimming pool) the match ...

Adventure Sports camp -10-12 April 2015

Image
Posted by Xian Wei This year, I joined an Adventure Sports camp for 3 days, also organised by Radiant Retreats. This is a level 2 camp, just before the Wilderness Skills Camp under the Bronze Category. This time there were about 16 participants. We were divided unevenly into 3 groups.  Rope Climbing...Our first lesson of the camp. The ropes blistered my hands..      After that, we went river trekking at Kg. Chemperoh again, but this time we went further upstream. In the midst of river trekking, we also did river crossing because the water was deep there. When we finished, we were totally drenched... But the water activities weren't over yet! We went for rafting after that and did river tubing there. It was really fun... By then the water activities were over. It was time to go back to the campsite...  The next day, we did basic abseiling. Next, we did map reading. We were asked to draw our dream island. The top left...

A Climbing Gym - 30 Dec 2014

Image
Indoor climbing gym is so popular especially during the school holidays, coupled with a prolonged rainy season. Kudos for the kids to be brave enough to take on rock climbing, though just a 1-hour taster session. On second thot, I don't think they could last longer than an hour :) Testing yourself against your limits can give a boost to your ego. They came out with great sense of accomplishment. It's exciting and challenging, it allows the boys to be focus in the moment, but first, they've to overcome some physical and mental barriers..... 'What!! Tis is just a warm up wall!'   And the real climbing walls looked like these.....  Testing yourself against your limits! Very proud of the young ones especially! Coming down was more scary than going up...... Climbing is also a balancing act. The Itsy Bitsy Spider-Kids! Hang in there, brother! Lesson learnt : Don't look down. Peak experiences Don't kno...

Go the Distance - April

Image
Go, Go, Go!! April was the month of sports and games. The boys have their sports days, inter school sports and state level sports. I have gotten used to the extra hours of practising and the extra effort sending them everywhere. The boys both enjoy their school experience, and participating in sports or club is a key part of this. Win or lose, they'll learn a lot about themselves and their limits. These days, sports day was not all about competition. It's a lot of Fun.... ... doing a tribal dance .... or a mummy race .... walking barefoot on the tracks ..... to attend the Pharoah's wedding... ... a few of the invited guests Jin just made it to the podium in the 200m race.  For the record, Jin's comeback after a longgg hiatus.  Wei has a very different experience in sports day this year. He's always very physical and the athletic one in the family. But this year, he surprised us with his participation i...
