We have not deliberately taught Science to our kids. However, in some ways we hope to have instilled in our kids a sense of wonder of the world around them.  Curiosity Rover Landing An opportunity to talk about the space and beyond..... We watched the live webcast of Curiosity rover landing on Mars in August. We could feel the tenseness and excitement of Nasa control room as the rover landed.  Such a complicated exercise that required years of preparation.... The rover is expected to be in Mars for about 2 years to perform numerous testings and take pictures. We understood from the webcast that the Curiosity mission did not include alien-hunting! It's almost surreal to be able to receive HD colour images from Mars sent by the rover. We wanted to make our version of the Rover but it ended up like a scorpion. Sharing the sense of wonder and awe of the world around us is part of learning science. The local science centre is a good place to start learning science, and it has a library (3rd floor) with a good variety of science books for the children. The laboratory at Pusat Sains Negara was impressive. It has an outdoor arboretum of living plants and flowers and some small animals, but most striking was the butterfly species there. Breeding butterflies and other creepy crawlies...... Our experiment on this day was "Fish Anatomy". The facilitator was knowledgeable and the parents also benefited much from the programme. Each child was given a fish to observe and this got them really excited!! This was Brandon's first experience in a real science lab! The children have to determine if temperature affects the movement of a fish's gill and mouth - poor fish...... the fish was almost motionless after we added an ice cube into the beaker, without hes...

I don't know how the football craze hits my kids. Every chance they have, in- and outdoor, they'd play with the ball. Few months ago, they spoilt their last football, in their boredom, the kids made their first indoor cardboard football game!  Digging out the cardboard boxes, toothpaste boxes etc.... Putting their football card collection to good use..... Brandon called it the 'finger soccer' game! See them in action in this video.... For those who enjoy creative writing, poetry and prose, music, this is simply not to be missed. Even for first timers like us who went without any expectation, it's a feast for the eyes and ears. " Readings at Seksan's " is a monthly gathering of writers or aspiring talents to give them a platform to read their work and mingle with like-minded people. This is not exactly a gathering in the ivory tower - we never knew "readings" could be so much fun! I will post some examples & videos below. Even my children were very engrossed.
