Craft Cake - 3 & 15 Dec 2014
It's Christmas time!
We wanted to do something new together with some friends. Cupcake decoration with fondant sounded like a very cool idea. It's not as hard as we thought. Kids nowadays have been exposed to playing dough/clay so this is not very different. I bought the ready coloured fondant, ranging from RM8-9 per small tub. Most important - baking your own the cupcakes is definitely tastier and fresher. Most kids like chocolate, but I made marble cupcakes cos the recipe has been tested and easy. The other thing is the glue between the cake top and the fondant base. Buttercream is commonly used and it's available in almost ready made form. The design? Leave the kids alone. We're not making designer cupcakes, so the kids would figure it out.

Our youngest artisan!
This was our 1st attempt from all first-time artisans. Mommies also could not resist making a few for themselves :) We're very happy with the results and the number of designs we have - including a 3D-octopus, a dog, ladybirds, bumble bee, candy canes, Christmas gift and trees.
A Merry Christmas to all our loved ones and friends!!
Too cute to eat!
We've a few 3D Snowmen the 2nd round. All in all, we used 7 small tubs of coloured fondant and about 80+ cupcakes. With so much resources online, it's really easy and economical to DIY at home. It's a very good activity for school holidays, the kids learn to focus, be creative and have fun with their friends. The best thing is - we can give away these cute, colourful cupcakes as Christmas gifts too.
