Quarantine Reflection

Image
Upon returning from America, people have always asked me what I am studying. When I tell them, I always receive a look of amazement or surprise.  “Wow, so you want to be a pastor?” I agree that a young kid studying theology as a degree is unheard of in Malaysia, or at least not that I know of. So, naturally people will be curious to know why. I have been facing this simple question ever since I decided to study abroad in Liberty University in America one year ago.   In hindsight, I think that God has given me a foretaste of what it means to be a minister. Or maybe it was just a season of growth in my Christian faith. Whichever it may be, I realized that the first year at Liberty He placed in me a burden for the lost and a confidence to reach out to them. Although I did ministry work in Scripture Union prior, it was merely a fun job then where I understood the gospel and develop skills to present it. But only when I started leading evangelism trips around Lynchburg and witnessing to

Life on Movement Control Order

Like surreal, the life we knew has come to a halt – so sudden and so fast. After months of adjusting to life under partial lockdown, to flatten the curve, now the prospect of reopening seems equally daunting. While everyone is talking about a new normal in the post Covid-19 future, here are a few things I've learned so far that I hope will encourage you to press on in your walk. Be Brave This was the first thing I reminded myself and my boys. In peaceful times, it’s easy to be brave. But in difficult times, we need to be brave when we face fears, dangers, anxiety, doubt and temptations, even when we are scared, even when we don’t feel like it. God commands us to be strong and courageous. To be strong in conviction, strong to lead, to stand, to suffer ( Ellisabeth Elliot ). To hold fast to His Words. To hang in there. Our Almighty God knows all and sees all and is sovereign. Be brave, for He promises never to leave us. Remember Lot's wife Just before the outbreak

Anniversary – When Marriage is Bigger Than Us

We are thankful to have each other, though we are unable to go out like usual to celebrate our 21 st anniversary. Our world is still in the battle against invisible enemies, one that seeks to destroy our physical and another to destroy our souls. During this movement control order or lockdown even in some places, it opens up our eyes to see like never before. How we take things for granted and realise the brevity of life.   Someone said, that Marriage is like Life, it is a field of battle; not a bed of roses. Instead of unity of heart and mind, we see God’s providence in two completely different personalities. Becoming ‘One' is never easy in marriage, especially when we want all our rights. Strangely that’s how we see God in the haphazard things of our marriage. As we learn to release one another from our expectations, God can start His workmanship in each of us. Marriage is bigger than just the man and woman in the relationship. When marriage is about us, we will n

Unprecedented Times

My last post was in 2017. We are at a crossroad now with the growing boys, finding a balance to continue to be there for them without hovering over their lives - the normal growing up pains and joy of letting our boys choose their own paths, find their ways and accept responsibilities. When everything seems to be going well, what we certainly did not expect was to witness the uncontained global spread of Covid-19 before our eyes. It takes some time to make sense of what is happening, not just at home, but all over the world.  How we can give up so much in such a short time? What happened to our plans, hopes, dreams, future? Why did God allow this to happen? Will we get over this? Or have we reached the peak of the outbreak? Will we get sick and die? What about our loved ones and people we know? How long will the movement restriction order or lockdown last? Will the lockdown be enough to flatten or slow down the curve of this outbreak? How long can our healthcare system and
